After experiencing violence, finding your way forward can feel uncertain. Sometimes you need someone to talk to. Sometimes you need information, practical support, or simply a quiet place to understand what you're feeling. And sometimes, you may not know what you need at all.
SafeHerSpace was created because finding support shouldn't feel like another thing you have to figure out on your own. We wanted to create a place where survivors and those who care about them can find trusted information, explore available support, and better understand what recovery can look like.
Through Beyond Survival, we are looking beyond the immediate crisis to understand the longer journey of recovery for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence in Sri Lanka. SafeHerSpace brings together the information and support pathways that can help make that journey a little easier to navigate.
There is no single way to recover, and there is no perfect place to start. Take what you need, move at your own pace, and begin wherever feels right for you.
There is no single way to recover from sexual or gender-based violence. You may be looking for someone to talk to, practical assistance, legal information, or simply a place to understand what you're experiencing. SafeHerSpace helps you explore available support without telling you what you should do.
Gender-based violence (GBV) can take many forms, including sexual violence, sexual harassment, domestic violence and other forms of abuse. Understanding what GBV can look like—and knowing where support may be available—is an important part of creating safer pathways for survivors.
You might need information first. You might want to speak with someone. You might need legal or practical support. You might need time before you're ready to take another step.
Recovery after violence can affect emotional wellbeing, relationships, sleep, concentration and everyday life. Learn about some common experiences and explore gentle, practical information about finding support.
